WORK EXPERIENCE 2007 FEEDBACK
By Sam Anderson
During Work Experience at Planet Sound, the group did a number of activities. These ranged from music technology to African and Samba dance to drama, all of which were out of many of the group’s comfort zone.

Out of all of the activities, there were three main points that the whole fortnight a great experience for me.
These were: The performance at Crewe’s Lyceum Theatre. During a day, members of the group went with Felix and Clare to the Lyceum Theatre at Crewe. We put into action what we had learnt on Friday and were ready to strut and bang our stuff. We danced some traditional Samba dance moves as taught to us by Clare and played some traditional Samba drum patterns as taught to us by Felix. After helping Clare and Felix teach the groups how to perform we put into practice our moves and noises and marched as though in a carnival around Crewe Lyceum Theatre.

Secondly, the performance at the LRV building, Leek Road Campus, Staffordshire University, saw the group drumming and dancing away to a live audience! After a strenuous session with Jahman, a master drummer from Africa, and more enjoyable dance lessons from Clare we were once again wowing the audience and this time Mr. Will and his accompaniments. After our turn it was the turn of the audience of which the drums were dealt out and many of them got to drum along with ourselves and the Planet sound artists as well as a few brave souls dancing away with Clare and K’marie.

Lastly, after all was said, done, evaluated and laughed at, Mr. Will and Joe took the group out for a meal at Fat Cat’s Café Bar. With some weird tastes and dishes and members leaving the table to play video games, the group wore our drill caps (as provided by Planet Sound) and took a photo, said goodbye and departed.

The whole work experience bought about many changes within myself. My confidence grew, as did my willingness to participate and my ability to work as a group. These two weeks have bought about my willingness and desire to stay on and help out at Planet Sound and getting involved as much as possible.
