| YOUTH TRAINING PROGRAMME 2002 As part of Planet Sound Community Arts' work with the North Staffs Music Action Zone "Make Some Noise", a week of experience and training in community music was offered to young people during July 2002. The project was aimed at 15-18 year olds at a critical decision making stage in their lives, and were selected from the geographical areas highlighted by "Make Some Noise". The course lasted one week and started on Mon July 22nd 2002, with a morning and afternoon session taking place each day. Sessions were conducted in house at Cartwright House, Mitchell Memorial Youth Theatre and was free to all participants, due to the funding provided by the National Foundation for Youth Music. |
  
| The course offered an introduction to Community Music, gave taster sessions in different musical genres and addressed issues of composition and musical creation through Search and Reflect exercises. The participants also experienced conducting their own workshops and evaluating their performance, in additon to recieving presentations from various contacts in the area, and being made aware of business issues regarding potential projects. A Manual entitled "Manual for Youth Music in the North staffs" was produced as part of this project, and was given to all the project participants. The aim of this document is to provide a basis for developing youth and community music facilities in the area.
