LATEST NEWS SPECTRUMS OF SOUND 2007! On 26th Nov 2007, Planet Sound staged the annual "Spectrums of Sound" at the Victoria Hall, Hanley. With extra seating being added to the venue to accomodate the demand for tickets, and with over 160 performers involved in the show from all across the North Staffs, Spectrums of Sound 2007 was the biggest and best attended showcase to date!! Special guests included Lord Mayor, Bagh Ali and local boxing hero Scott Lawton. The doors opened at 7pm, and as the public entered the fantastic Victoria Hall building they were entertained by the drummers from Churchfields Primary School, Chesterton. The group was staging their first performance at a major venue, and recieved lots of applause from the crowds. At 7.30 the entertainment started in the auditorium as Brown Hills Samba band, led by Felix Gibbons and Martin Nolan, paraded from the back of the theatre. The group had previously performed at the Xmas Lights parade in Hanley, and dazzled the crowd with their costumes and loud samba beats. Once onstage, the group was joined by Capeiora Art Brasil who gave the crowd a display of their Capeiora skills to the samba beats. Soon after, the group Kasanti took to the stage performing 3 pieces from their African Drumming repetoire. Based at St.Lukes, the Kasanti group have been running for several years and are experienced performers at Planet Sound events, as well as Stoke City Football ground! The group ended with an energetic piece that had the whole audience clapping and moving their feet. Kasanti then joined Madula and Chuchfields to form one big ensemble made up of African drums, samba instruments and a brass section, together with Mr.Dawson on keyboards to play a salsa piece based around the traditional "Helena Tom bom bom". The 40 piece ensemble was also joined by Sarah Miller on vocals and the Madula dancers who performed an original choreographed piece to the music. Focus shifted to the Access All Areas project, where "Ade, Zac and Dave" played their own brand of rock music, getting the whole crowd to sing along with their ending tune! A group from Chasewater High School, Cannock also performed their original piece, composed for the show, featuring their own sampled sounds that they had sequenced, together with original vocals and dance steps. Also shown was the video, "Be an Icon" by the Posionous Poets. The whole event was compered by Nigel "Right Said Nige" Booth, who introduced all the acts and led the many audience interactions throughout the evening. After the interval, CHINA staged its theatre production based around the theme of Creation, and skims the surface of the highs and lows that arise in growing up. The devising of the piece came from the group themselves and all the dialogue and ideas were written collaborative between the cast from the different art forms. The Planet Sound Drumschool performed two pieces, the first being an original piece that the intermediate group had created this term, together with Jahman Sillah singing "Kamben Silo" over the top of the rhythms. Drumschool then brought out members of the open group to form a percussion section of 25, and played the traditional West African piece "Nyabingi" to The evening came to a close with the Planet Sound group performing three songs - a fusion of the music from brazil & africa together with the sound and talent from stoke to create a sound that is unique to the area. Planet Sound would like to thank everyone involved in the creation and production of Spectrums of Sound 2007.
