SANITY FAIR 2003
PICCADILLY, HANLEY 7th JUNE 2003

On 7th June 2003, Planet Sound Community Arts were involved in the third annual Sanity Fair street festival.

Organised by James McAteer of the Media Group For Mental Health, the event took place in Piccadilly, Hanley and a programme of events had been organised to promote positive perceptions and awareness of mental health issues through community activity.

The Planet Sound Community Arts Drumschool performed several times in different locations during the day, and took to the main stage at 3pm.
Entertaining the crowd between sets of the established acts, the drumschool entertained the audiences and members of the public danced in the street to the djembe rhythms.

Open Workshops were held throughout the day alongside the many other events at the festival, with members of the public being invited to have a go at playing Djembe based tunes alongside members of Planet Sound Community Arts and the Drumschool.
The music hardly stopped all day, with passers by stopping to take part and learn.
Even Mayor Mike Wolfe took time out of his schedule to join in an open workshop.

A successful event, the Sanity Fair for 2004 is being planned already, with Planet Sound Community Arts and the Drumschool set to become a regular feature.

More information about the festival and its aims can be found at the website - www.sanityfair.org.uk, and also at the Media Action Group for Mental Health website - www.mhmedia.com.
