POISONOUS POETS - "BE AN ICON" The ‘Poisonous Poets’ are a group of young men who first started to explore music production, lyric writing and performance techniques in the summer of 2006 when they created and performed a track in front of over a thousand people at the Planet Sound “Spectrums of Sound” Showcase at the Victoria Hall. In the spring of 2007 they teamed up with artists from Planet Sound Community Arts, staff from the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and BBC Radio Stoke, to take part in the ‘Icons of Heritage’ project and step up their creative game. They found inspiration in iconic people, objects and buildings that represent the heritage of the Potteries and explored the role that young people play in contributing to the heritage of the Potteries. The sound of Stoke was captured and the ideas it evokes written down to create a unique and meaningful song. The Poisonous Poets performed their track to a live audience at one of the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery’s popular themed events days in April 2007. They also performed the track to an intimate audience of family, friends and peers at an event, which celebrated the achievements of young people. They plan to carry out repeat performances throughout the summer at various local festivals.
