| ARCHIVE NEWCASTLE CARNIVAL GRAND PARADE NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME - 26th MAY 2003 On 26th May 2003, Planet Sound Community Arts completed the second date of the summer performance schedule, joining Newcastle Under Lyme's Grand Parade. Participants from projects including Berry Hill High School, Mitchell High School, Chesterton's Banjomanjo, MaDuLa, THADO joined the Planet Sound Community Arts team and Felix Gibbons to perform the most lively samba piece that the Newcastle Carnival has seen. A dance and vocal section led the parade, with members of the troupe calling the motifs and breaks. The percussion section featured all the instruments of a samba batteria with the addition of djembes. The piece, composed by the Planet Sound Community Arts team had been practiced with individual groups in the weeks leading up to the carnival, and tied into the Carnival "70s" theme with several vocal references to famous 70s songs. The audience were invited to join in with the motif "Why why why Delilah" at various stages in the procession. African drumming workshops were also held throughout the day at Brampton park, and were open to all members of the public. Proving very popular with children and adults alike, the workshops provided and opportunity for everyone to try African percussion, and all participants were invited to the drumschool events.
