KASANTI - PEER MENTORING AT SPRINGBANK PRIMARY 31st Jan 08 On 31st January, the Kasanti group gave the pupils of Springbank Primary School an introduction to West African drumming. The afternoon began with Kasanti performing for 25 minutes to the whole of the school. The group played several West African pieces and got the whole of Springbank School clapping along to the rhythms, in addition to providing a brief introduction to the names of each drum and what it is used for in a djembe ensemble. The year 5 & 6 at Springbank were then given the chance to play the djembes, with members of Kasanti keeping the basic dun-dun patterns for the group and each acting as peer mentors for several of the Springbank pupils, as the group were tutored through the djembe parts to a West African drumming piece. The afternoon was a great success and further events are planned for 2008. Well done Kasanti!!
