DRUMSCHOOL SHOWCASE MARCH 2008 FULL MOON, NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME MARCH 13th 2008 On March 13th 2008, the Planet Sound Drumschool concluded a successful winter term, with a celebration showcase at the Full Moon, Newcastle Under Lyme. As welcoming as ever, the Full Moon proved to be the perfect venue for the event, as the Drumschool were joined by Kasanti, Mendiani and Capeoira Art Brasil to provide a memorable night for one of the biggest crowds the Full Moon has ever had! Kasanti opened the evening with several pieces from their current study programme. The evening offered debut performances for several of the young people, as well as giving Elliot the chance to show his newly developed soloing skills! The Staffs Moorlands based group, Mendiani followed with a great set featuring traditional West African drumming pieces, and fantastic dancers of all ages. The performance was powerful and energetic, proving the group simply gets better and better! Capeoira Art Brasil entertained the crowd with traditional Brazillian music and instruments, singing songs from group leader, Leo De Oliveria's home town. The group also showcased some of the fantastic movement that is tutored every week as part of their community programme. The Planet Sound Drumschool then took to the stage to showcase the material worked on during the winter 2008 term. Joined by West African master drummer Jahman Sillah, both the open group and the intermediate group performed to an energetic and enthusiastic audience. The evening ended with performers from all groups coming together for a big "group jam", with audience members invited to join in with the rhythms. Before long the whole venue was dancing, drumming and making music together - for a fantastic finish to the event! Thank you to all who attended and gave a perfect atmosphere to the event!
