DRUMSCHOOL UPDATE - MARCH 2005
On Wed March 9th, the Planet Sound Drumschool recorded the piece "Africa" at the Blue Lizzard studios, Burslem.
Adapted from a traditional West African piece to include lyrics and arrangements from Stoke On Trent, the session provided a chance to document the work done since Xmas 2004.

The track also featured established international recording artist, Mark White of the band "Spin Doctors" on the bass guitar. Mark White recorded alongside the drumschool members after a short rehearsal.
Members of the drumschool were put on the guest list for the Spin Doctors concert the next evening.
We would like to thank Mark White for his visit and for making us welcome as part of the Spin Doctors tour.
The following week the group recorded the piece "kasagbe", and extra vocals for the piece "Africa".

A production session is planned for March 29th 2005.
When finished, the tracks will appear on the Planet Sound Community Arts website. To be notified of this click here

The drumschool performed two pieces at the Full Moon's open mic night,as well as playing along with the bands and poet as part of the evening's entertainment. A further performance is planned for Sunday April 3rd and will celebrate Cath's birthday!

On Saturday 12th March, some members of the drumschool attended a workshop conducted by Seckou Keita.
This workshop was organised by Ron Catteral and took place in Shrewsbury, and gave people the chance to experience traditional West African drumming pieces as conducted by a master drummer.

The Planet Sound Drumschool is also organising a trip to this year's Drum Camp, from 7th-10th July 2005.
