MITCHELL CELEBRATIONS 2007 CHINA Theatre Company - 24th Oct 2007 Around 25 people turned up for CHINA theatre companies Workshop day as part of the Mitchell Memorial Celebrations. The group was made up of adults with learning disabilities and support staff. The day was designed to give people a taste of what they can expect from the company and was also a chance for new people to join the existing CHINA group. The piece was created with the idea of "CREATION" in mind. How are we created? What is around us that is created? Living Creations. The visual arts group came up with pictures of living things around them. They went out in the surrounding area and captured moments in time where living things were just existing. The images were then played during the performance piece to enhance what was already being performed on the stage. The music group worked with an existing piece of music to learn about music technology and to enhance the already existing piece with sounds and voices. They also recorded two poems and used whispers, instruments and a variety of other natural materials to great effect. The performance group used dance, mime, images and drama to create a piece that told the story of two people who held the key to creation within themselves. The dawn of day symbolised the creation of new life. Animal imagery and body metamorphosis was the key to the success of this piece. The day ended with a short performance on stage at the Mitchell Memorial Theatre, featuring all the elements. However the day was greatly successful and CHINA theatre company was able to recruit another five members. The next performance of the CHINA Theatre Company will be at the Spectrums of Sound event, at the Victoria Hall on 26th November 2007. CHINA links! Reserve tickets for next show! / Email CHINA team |
