Planet Sound Drum School together with the Planet Sound Carnival team started at 10.30am with 5 short samba performances across the Blurton area to promote the Festival. The group were then joined by a group of young people from Blurton and together they produced a lively and loud samba parade in the main parade of Blurton Carnival at 1pm. The performance mixed traditional samba rhythms with material written by the Planet Sound Carnival team, including vocals and contemporary dance. In collaboration with Beavers Arts, preperations for the carnival started on 1st July 2003, with Planet Sound Community Arts running a week of taster workshops from in several youth and community centres in the Blurton area. These sessions were open to all young people in the Blurton community, and from here Planet Sound Community Arts secured participants to form the core of a samba batteria. Planet Sound Community Arts then followed up these initial workshops on 4th August, rehearsing the newly formed batteria from 7-9 every evening leading up to the parade. The young people worked hard on the samba piece and produced a fantastic and energetic parade on the Saturday. A big thank you goes out to everyone involved, and we hope that you keep in touch with us. Click here to see latest news and developments. Click hereto return to the archive contents. |
