BROWNHILLS SAMBA AT CITY CENTRE XMAS LIGHTS
15th November 2007

A group from Brownhills were given their first Samba performance opportunity as part of the City Centre Christmas Lights parade.

The group spent the day working with Felix Gibbons, learning samba breaks, the culture of samba in Brazil, and members of the group chose instruments for the parade in the evening.

At 5.30pm the group met with other groups outside the Victoria Hall, with their instruments and led the City Centre parade right through to Tontine Square to witness the switching on of the Christmas Lights, in front of the thousands who had turned up for the event.

The group will next perform at the Spectrums of Sound showcase on 26th Nov 2007, led once again by Felix Gibbons and Martin Nolan.

The Brownhills samba band will rehearse on regular evenings after school, with samba kit borrowed long term from Planet Sound Community Arts.
Music teacher martin Nolan also plans to use the equipment as part of the lessons in school, giving more opportunity to young people to experience the samba rhythms.
