DRUMSCHOOL UPDATE - SUMMER 2005
The first "Intermediate" level of drumschool was conducted from 17th April to 26th June 2005.
Funded by the NDLC,participants were introduced to a variety of musical concepts from resting on the beat to interlocking rhythms, learning all of the parts that make up a piece of drumming music.
Also covered during the term was drum tuning and maintenance, with drumschool members choosing and taking care of a particular drum.
The West African piece, "Djole" was used as a base to learn material, and once members were comfortable with the musical patterns, the sessions focused on creating and composing their own additions to the piece.
The results were recorded in a final session, and soundclips are available below:-

From 7th to 10th July 2005, members of the drumschool also attended the event "Drumcamp 2005" in Suffolk.
Over the Thurs-Sun event, drumschool participants experienced workshops and concerts in a range of percussion styles by master musicians from around the world.
