A collaborative team was developed to include artists from Beavers Arts and the New Vic Theatre, as well as artists from the Planet Sound team. The team of 8 artists and 2 young trainees have taken opportunities in many different musical genres to young people, who receive little or no opportunity to make music, across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent. The project has visited 10 different areas, with each session giving the participants chance to experience a choice of African & Samba percussion, Vocals and rap, song writing, movement, music technology, DJing, junk drums and guitar. A theme for the 2003 workshop programme was devised by the Access All Areas team using the ideas of "Dreams", "Rights" and "Barriers". The themes were central to every session, with participants being encouraged to think of their own dreams, to examine what rights meant to them, and to consider what barriers exist in their lives. The participants then used these initial thoughts and ideas to create music during the sessions. Material was recorded in these sessions and will be used by the team to produce a 3 track CD, which will be distributed to all the young people involved in the project. In addition to the CD, which will feature a track based around each of the three themes, a video was made by Whitelight productions, featuring young people from Pendrell Hall performing the material they had created during one of the sessions. The video will be launched during a showcase event in early October at Alton Towers. CD editing and mastering will take place during September, with the CD release being scheduled for late October 2003. The Access All Areas team will co-ordinate one final event for this period, which will showcase the work of some of the groups and artists involved in the project as well as other Make Some Noise projects. Everyone involved in Access All Areas, as well as the general public, will be invited to the showcase. Related pages The Team / Email us Make Some Noise website |
